Red Rocks (spring has sprung)

It's been absolutely beautiful all week, in the sixties and low seventies. After a long and cold winter, most of us here in Denver are a little stir-crazy, and at the first sign of sun, everyone is outside. I went for a long hike today out at Red Rocks with my parents, and not only was the parking lot at the trailhead full, but so was the overflow lot across the highway. We queued up with fifteen other cars on the side of the road. There were a ton of people mountain biking, and a fair number of us just out walking. The landscapes out there are pretty amazing -- they remind me of something out of Calvin and Hobbes' "Spaceman Spiff" series of drawings. My dad had never seen the amphitheatre, and he thought it was pretty cool. It was built back in the 30s by the CCC, and although bits and pieces have been renovated since then, the design is essentially the same. I love how it fits right in to the rocks. We were out for four hours all told -- my feet were sore by the end, but it felt great to get out in the sun at last. I'll be out quite a bit tomorrow, too -- spring league starts and we have a double header!
