Baliville

We went for a long walk this morning, first on the road then on a little path out through the jungle south of town. It was muggy and hot, but it was nicer in the shade of the huge palms and strangler figs. We heard (but didn’t see) a red-crested woodpecker, and walked through a long-abandoned mango orchard. Eventually we came out onto another road, which ended up at… Baliville. Yes, Baliville. Apparently this entrepreneur went to Bali, bought six houses, disassembled them, shipped them to Mexico, and reassembled them here in Sayulita. They are mostly made of wood, with incredibly elaborate decorative carving, and some brick. Tile roofs and floors. I’ll post some pics when I get home, but there are some good ones here. Each house also has a little artist’s studio/guest house alongside. It is a very cool but very bizarre little development, a 45 minute walk from town and literally in the middle of nowhere.

Scrabble tournament scheduled for this afternoon, and then drinks with our new Welsh friends – we have such a busy social life down here, much more so than at home.
