The party was a big success, a good mix of folks, plenty of wine, and some tasty food. W brought bruschetta with fresh mozzarella, A and I picked up olives, hummus and pita, and lots of frozen things from Target (along with the wine -- the SuperTarget on Colorado Blvd is one of the only 'grocery' stores in all of Colorado that is allowed to sell wine, due to strange legal loopholes), and most of the guests brought things to share as well. A wore his tux with a new tie and shirt, I wore the black silk dress that I bought for M's wedding, and almost everyone else dressed up too. It's fun to see people in their fancy clothes -- especially the gym teacher from school, who sported a long red formal gown!
On Sunday A and I drove up to Boulder to meet with our wedding photographer -- we wanted to pick out a group photo, and she enlarged the choices on her computer so we could look at everyone's faces. We spent half an hour, and then drove home. I spent the next four hours grading my students' writing journals, and then met W for sushi before the Nutcracker, her birthday present to me. It was performed in the brand new Ellie Caulkins Opera House, which is not only beautiful, but high-tech. Every seat has an individual sub-titling system (originally intended for opera of course) which can display information in any of several languages, and was used to inform us what was going on in the ballet ("The Prince tells Clara he will take her on a magical journey," for example). The program had lots of hyperbole about how it would be pointless to build any new venue without including this system, and how Colorado Ballet is "leading the way" in utilizing it for ballet. Silly.
Today I verified that I could find my passport and started deciding what to pack. Yes, I know I'm not leaving until Saturday.
